Gift Registry 101

Gift registry makes gift giving and getting simple. You choose the items you want and your guests choose from your list to buy the items you want. So how’s this done exactly? With care of course.

So before you start scanning every piece of kitchenware in the store know yourself and your husband-to-be. What do you like to do in the kitchen or outside? How would you decorate your own house? Once you and your significant other have sat down and discussed this you’ll have a better idea of what you need versus what you want.

Afterward choose a few stores to register from and make sure that they’ve got stores in other cities to make it easier for your guests to find the items you’ve chosen. You can even use this time to ask about the store’s policies on returns. Then go ahead, get the scanner and scan away. Remember that you don’t have to only choose items for the kitchen, give your guests a range of items to choose from.

Register items that are in season, you might even consider getting storage items and out of the ordinary items. You might even look into online registries so guests can get you and your husband-to-be spa treatments, airline tickets, and a number of other out of the ordinary gifts.

Start your gift registry as soon as you can. Make sure that when you’re registering gifts that you have a range of price points, this way all guests can equally participate in their own way to your wedding/bridal showers and your wedding gift. By registering early you can monitor what your guests are buying for you, and enables you to update all your registries if you have the same item on multiple registries. Once you’re done making your gift registry ask for a print out.

Let your parents, in-laws and bridesmaids know where you’ve registered, this way whenever they send out invitations for bridal showers the guests will know where to go to find items you need or want. You can even tell guests in their wedding invitations where you’ve registered.

After your done registering items go and buy some thank you cards, because your going to need them really soon! Showing appreciation for the gifts is the least you can do. Remember that no one is required to get you anything, they do it out of love, so you should show your guests your appreciation.
