ID-100276378A potluck wedding dinner is a great way to include your guests in your wedding day. This would not be limited to local guests either, the out of town guests can bring trays of food from a grocery store, or baked goods from a local bakery. A potluck dinner can include food that the wedding couple have specifically asked their guests to make, such as family favorites, or special dishes that their guests are known for. The guests can also choose what they make and want to contribute to the wedding feast.

This is a great idea for couples who are having a backyard wedding, but those who are holding their reception in a hall or hotel may have to ask permission from the reception venue to bring outside food. Some reception halls, like hotels have policies in place about outside food, so make sure you have cleared it with your venue before asking your guests to bring food.

The wedding couple can organize it so the potluck dinner matches their wedding theme. Although you can’t expect your friends and family members to become sushi chefs over night to accommodate your whim. Only ask people to contribute what they know how to make. The dinner choices can also reflect culture and family, you can ask guests to bring something their family makes best, or something that reflects their culture or yours.

A potluck dinner might save you some money as well since food is the most expensive part of your wedding day. If everyone brings a dish you’ll know that there will definitely be enough food to go around and that no matter where you hold your reception, you won’t be left cleaning dishes.

The etiquette surrounding a wedding potluck dinner says that out of town guests are not obliged to bring food, and those who do bring food are then not obliged to also give the couple a gift. You might want to ask those who are supplying food to also supply the recipe so those who would like a copy of it can easily have one.

Although potluck weddings are not common place, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have their place. There will be nay sayers, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it just because someone else doesn’t like the idea. It’s your wedding and your guests who know you will be thrilled to be part of it. And for those who don’t, don’t worry about them, they’ll be sorry they let food stand in the way of celebrating your wedding with you.
